Speaking Events Next Week

Next week I will be speaking/participating in two conferences.

First, on Friday November 25 I will be in Eindehoven at How Do You Do, part of the cool STRP festival. I’ll be talking app making, fundraising, and all the various other things that I ‘do’.

On Sunday the 27th I will lead a breakout session on productivity tracking at the Quantified Self Europe conference. How long is that task going to take? Was your estimate accurate? How can I manage all these things that need to be done ASAP? We’ll discuss these questions and more as we get a handle on how to be more productive through quantifying our past productivity.

Mashup Day Presentation

I gave my first ‘professional’ presentation today at the Mashup Day of the Dutch public broadcasters in Hilversum. I was the first speaker and hopefully got people in the mood, inspired to build mashups and equiped with a better sense of how to go about conceptualizing them. You can view my presentation on Prezi or read (in Dutch) Rogier van den Brink’s summary of it. I’m tickled pink that Gerald vd Wijngaart retweeted something I said during the presentation: “Mashups are about curation, not content creation.” The whole day was a warmup for the mashup creation weekend planned for September. With the sucess today and the activity on the mashen Ning, I have high hopes for it!

Public Appearances

I am part of the Hot 100 ‘up-and-coming creative media talent of the Netherlands’ and will be at the Picnic Conference in Amsterdam on September 25. Since there’s 100 of us, I think it’s mostly just a networking event. Either way, I’m excited to be part of the day.

On October 2 I will be at the ArcticStartup birthday party in Helsinki and will talk about the startup scenes in Amsterdam, Silicon Valley, and Helsinki. I had a great time in Helsinki last May attending BarCampHelsinki (there’s a second one on September 27) and look forward to talking to all the Finnish startups.

Also, the iPhone Dev Camp was a great success and articles have popped-up all over the Dutch media. Bright.tv made a nice video on which you can hear me blabber about the event, and there were also articles at iPhone Club (1 and 2), NU.nl (and also a mention of the Bright.tv video), iPhoned.nl, MacWereld.nl and LifeHacking.nl. A few of the articles mentioned me, so that was nice publicity!
